Universal Spacer Bar U-Channel Breakaway System
The Universal Spacer Bar Breakaway System is designed to give the user an easy-to-install, ground mounted, bolted-base breakaway system for any size U-Channel, up to 4# per foot, at a cost that is remarkably less than competitive U-Channel breakaway systems.The bar is capable of allowing interchangeability of top and base posts between various post manufacturers. Hence, it allows the user to utilize new components with existing components.Using the Universal Spacer Bar hardware, the Breakaway System securely nests U-Channel ground posts (standard 3' 6") with top posts (of varying lengths) and forms a union which is as strong as the posts themselves. The spacer bar has holes drilled for 1st and 5th hole placement, thereby eliminating any possible user assembly confusion.Safety is the key factor in the Breakaway System. In just minutes, using either manual or power tools, the post system can easily be driven, from ground level, into even the hardest clay. Nesting and bolting the Breakaway System takes just minutes, too - so altogether your installation crew spends less time by the side of the road, reducing their exposure to traffic-related injury.

Minute Man® U-Channel Breakaway System
The Minute Man® consists of two pieces of alloy cast steel (ASTM A536 Gr. 80) which fit into the top and base U-Channel posts. These couplers are bolted to a ground post and an upright sign post, then connected by a shear pin. On impact, the pin connecting the Minute Man® couplers shears, separating the upright sign support from the ground post. An aircraft cable (optional feature) tethers the post so it is not carried away.

Franklin Eze-Erect U-Channel Breakaway System
Franklin's EZE-Erect (also known as Franklin Strap) Breakaway System includes the following hardware:
Installation is done from the ground level. The base post is driven into the soil, concrete or asphalt, and the top post, with the sign already attached, is then bolted to the base post using simple tools. The schematic shown below illustrates how the two posts are connected. Eze-Erect can be used to hang any thing from small signs on single posts to very large signs or sign clusters on multiple posts. When crews are trained, installation should take a mere few minutes.
As with all the breakaway systems, the Eze-Erect sign post system is designed, when impacted, to salvage the upright post, base post and sign panels. These systems are designed to help cut costs of posts and installation through reusability of the sytem components.

Breakout® U-Channel Coupler
The U-Channel Breakout® Coupler is currently available for 2, 2 1/2, 3 and 4 lb. per foot u-channel posts. It is quick and cost effective to convert your u-channel sign post to a Breakout®. The U-Channel Breakout® adapts to existing 2-1/4" square tubing anchor installations, and ensures up to 90% of the post strength and wind load capabilities.
